Video Gambling Banned by Licensing Commission 2006-05-19
CHICOPEE, Massachusetts - As reported by the (Masachusetts) Republican: The License Commission voted unanimously last night to refuse licenses to video gaming machines. State Police Sgt. Michael J. Imelio, who said the machines are gambling devices and demonstrated two of the newer models for license commissioners. He said the machines can net hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in unreported profits. The machines have two meters, one to track the money players deposit and a second to track points scored, which Imelio said proves they are gambling devices.
Because the machines are computerized, they fall outside the state law banning gambling machines with mechanized reels or drums, Imelio said. License board Chairman William Pagel said no further licenses will be issued for automatic-amusement devices. "Those who already hold licenses for machines that can pay off players must turn the licenses into the commission within 30 days, Pagel said."
